Climavore
Rosa Whiteley (she/her) is a London-based architectural researcher and designer who focuses on the intersections of architecture, activism, and geopolitics. Rosa is the Director of Material Research at CLIMAVORE, a research platform and agency that questions how to eat as humans change climates. Within Climavore, she collaborates with researchers, material scientists and craftspeople, to develop building materials from waste seashells collected within the Isle of Skye in Scotland. She is also an Associate Lecturer at the RCA School of Architecture and a project manager and lead researcher within Cooking Sections, which uses food as a lens and tool to observe landscapes in transformation.
session description
Rosa joins the Manufacturing Materiality session to explore “materials” as an example of a much larger conversation to be had about alternative relationships with built environment. She’ll present CLIMAVORE’s work promoting systems that grow regenerative foods while cultivating healthy habitats and food-system related materials research, and explore what it means to develop an alternative economy, applications and approaches to materials research beyond production.
